The highlight of 1980 was our trip to the National Festival in Banff. Trying to get all the instruments and musicians out there was quite a feat! John Allen Cameron's show put the NSYO back in the black. He also narrated the NSYO recording that year called "Peter and the Wolf", which also featured Peter Allen performing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue in one of his first concert performances with orchestra. The recording was a fundraising project of the NSYO toward operating costs. The members all helped to sell the records, and Mary Jay was a big helper. A picture of her will be in this archives.
The NSYO owes a huge debt of gratitude to John Allen Cameron for all his support that year; he really saved the NSYO. We are very saddened by his passing in late 2006.
