Evan Mounce

Originally from Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, Evan Mounce is currently in his third year as a Bachelor of Music student and Bell Scholar at Mount Allison University where he studies saxophone with Prof. Wesley Ferreira and collaborative piano with Dr. David Rogosin.

As a saxophonist Evan has won various prizes in his home province of Nova Scotia through local and provincial festivals, including the Mount Allison Music Department’s Concerto competition which as a winner he recently performed Muczynski’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone with the Mount Allison Wind Ensemble. This past summer, Evan placed first in the national finals of the Canadian Music Competition in Montreal. He was recently the honoured recipient of the Mary McKean scholarship, the Anna Mitton prize in music, and the J.E.A Crake student fellowship for summer research which will allow him to delve into ‘Memory and Meaning in the Music of Charles Ives’, his research topic.

In addition to solo saxophone, Evan maintains an active performance schedule as a collaborative pianist and was accepted into Opera NUOVA’s collaborative piano program this summer where he will study with Michael McMahon and perform in their fully-staged production of Gounod’s Romeo et Juliet along with various song concerts.
