David Parker

David ParkerWolfville native David Parker has been Principal Hornist of Symphony Nova Scotia since 2000. He has been a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, L’Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec, the Israel Sinfonietta, and the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. He has also perfomed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops, the Boston Lyric Opera, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mexico City Philharmonic, the Charlottetown Festival Orchestra, the Stratford Festival Orchestra, and musical theatre productions in Toronto. He has worked as a studio musician for television, radio and movie sound tracks in Toronto and Mexico City.

Mr. Parker received a Master of Music in Brass Performance from Boston University, Phi Kappa Lambda (1992), an Artist Diploma in Performance from the University of Toronto (1987), and a Bachelor of Music Education from Acadia University (1984). Further studies have included residencies at the Royal Conservatory, Tanglewood, the National Repertory Orchestra (USA), the Pacific Music Festival (Japan), the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute, the Music Festival of Florida, and Orford. His influential teachers have included Daniel Katzen, Hermann Baumann and Eugene Rittich. Further studies have included lessons and master classes with artists including Froydis ree Wekre, Dale Clevenger, Greta Kraus, and Ifor James.

He was finalist at the American International Solo Horn Competition, and silver medalist at the CIBC National Music Competition. He is a regularly featured soloist with Symphony Nova Scotia, and appears regularly as a featured soloist and chamber musician throughout the Maritimes in festivals and concert series including Scotia Festival of Music, the New Brunswick Summer Music Festival, the Acadia University Garden Room series, the Music Room Chamber Music Society, the St. Cecelia Society, the Mahone Bay Summer Series, and the Dalhousie University Faculty Concert Series. He has performed with the Blue Engine String Quartet, the St. John String Quartet, and has been a member of the Essex Winds, the Barcelona Brass Quintet, and the Israel Sinfonietta Brass Quartet.

Mr. Parker currently teaches horn and brass chamber music at Dalhousie University.

David will be performing Mozart's Concerto for French Horn and Orchestra, K. 495 in Eb Major at the following venues:
